Lullaby of Broadway
Pretty Melinda Howard has been performing abroad with a musical ensemble. She chooses to return home in order to surprise her mother, whom she believes to be a successful Broadway actress living in a house in Manhattan. She has no idea that her mother is a jaded cabaret singer with a fondness for liquor. Friends of her mother's servants take her in when she arrives at the estate. The house is actually owned by Adolph Hubbell, a kind-hearted Broadway producer who is likewise sucked into the hoax. Hubbell develops a crush on Melinda and agrees to cast her in his upcoming production. Melinda also develops a romantic relationship with a handsome hoofer who is also a cast member. Except for Melinda's desire to see her mother, who continually delays their reunion, Melinda's life is going swimmingly.
