The Sandinistas liberated NIcaragua from the rule of Anastasio Somoza in this film. As the first liberated region, León, the city depicted in the film depicts some of the most pivotal moments in the conflict for that country's capital. An extensive cast and crew including former guerrilla and sandinista soldiers from León were involved in the making of the film.
