Into the Woods
Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods mixes together a number of well-known fairy tales to create an allegorical story about family, love, growing up, and the murky line between right and wrong. Timothy Sheader directed this show, which Digital Theatre shot live in London's Regent's Park Open Air theatre. Into the Woods darkens and humorousizes the Brothers Grimm's tales. The popular stories of Red Riding Hood, Jack (of the Beanstalk fame), Cinderella, and Rapunzel are interwoven with the story of the Baker and his Wife and their quest for childbirth. However, this retelling goes beyond "happily ever after," as familiar characters find themselves in different situations and their aspirations and dreams are tested and explored.
