April 2004, during the holiday of Ashurarebels loyal to Shiite leader Muktada As-Sadr, launched an insurgency at the Polish zone. The Poles, along with soldiers and Iraqi police, were given the job of protecting City Hall, directed by lieutenant-colonel Grzegorz Kaliciak. The conflict developed into the Polish engagement since World War II. Although roughly 80 insurgents were murdered in a counterattack, Maybe not really a single soldier died.
