Maria, the daughter of Captain Palmer, is disregarded by her mother's current husband, the cynical Leo, who is cohabitating with the lovely Sylvia. Palmer comes up with the notion of reuniting Sylvia with Pierre, who was her first love, so that he can defeat his son-in-law. Sylvia's first love was Pierre. Leo exacts his vengeance on Palmer by causing him a great deal of trouble, and Palmer, in turn, exacts his by initiating a violent battle that ultimately results in Leo's death. It would appear that all signs point to Pierre, but...
